what does the bible say

This weekend we followed up the message “How Committed to Jesus Do I Have to Be?” with one called “Do I Have to Lose My Life to Find It?”

Where is God leading you when He says “come follow me”? I don’t know. I don’t think any one can tell you. But I am confident that we are able to hear Him through scripture and the Holy Spirit as we seek Him in prayer and in service to Him and others.

With all that said, it can still be a confusing road, but be encouraged!

Martin Luther said:

“Discipleship is not limited to what you can comprehend-it must transcend all comprehension…Bewilderment is the true comprehension. Not to know where you are going is the true knowledge.”

Spend some time reading and praying through one of these passages of scripture each day this week:

  • Matthew 16:24-27
  • John 12:24-26
  • Philippians 3:7-11
  • Ephesians 2:8-10
  • Galatians 2:22-25
  • Romans 2:13
  • Matthew 7:15-23

Some books I’d highly recommend reading on this subject include:

  • The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
  • The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer
  • Following Jesus by N.T. Wright
  • Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
